History

The gardens opened in 2003 with over 7,000 native plants.

Features

Nature’s View is a charming rental space in the gardens perfect for small gatherings in a unique setting such as bridal and baby showers, or company retreats.

The Gardener’s Shed is home to barn owls. Around the corner near the Wild Prairie Pavilion, you'll find the snowy owls.

The Akron Zoo is a certified botanical garden through the American Public Gardens Association.

Zoo Gardens also features a sculpture called a Bipolar Butterfly, which also serves as a photo op. The butterfly sculpture was painted by artist, Kimmy Henderson, who is the founder of the Bipolar Butterfly Project. The initiative was started as a visual representation to raise awareness and show community for anyone dealing with mental health. The project strives to change the stigma on mental illness and encourages support and understanding.
