UPDATE 5:55 p.m.

Akron Police Department (APD) performed a comprehensive sweep of the entire park and nothing suspicious was found.APD was able to determine the threat was false and the Akron Zoo is safe.

No injuries were reported from staff and visitors, and all animals are safe. We are very grateful for the quick actions of Akron Zoo staff members, APD and Akron Fire Department.

The Akron Zoo will reopen on Sunday, July 19.

At approximately 3:05 p.m. today, the Akron Zoo received a bomb threat. This is consistent with other zoos receiving similar threats in past weeks. The zoo has implemented emergency management procedures and the zoo has been evacuated. Akron Police and Fire are on scene and assessing the situation.

The safety of all zoo employees, visitors and animals is top priority. The Akron Zoo is closed for the remainder of the day. Any updates will be shared.
