Akron Zoo receives threat

UPDATE 1:30 p.m.

At approximately 10:50 a.m. today, the Akron Zoo received a bomb and active shooter threat. The zoo evacuated all guests and staff immediately. Akron Police Department (APD) performed a comprehensive sweep of the entire park and nothing suspicious was found. 

APD was able to determine the threat was false and the Akron Zoo is safe. No injuries were reported from staff and visitors and all animals are safe. The zoo is grateful for the quick actions of Akron Zoo staff members and APD and Akron Fire Department. 

The safety of all zoo employees, visitors and animals is top priority. The Akron Zoo is closed for the remainder of the day and will reopen on Monday, May 4. 

Any guests who had tickets for Sunday, May 3 can contact the zoo for rescheduling and refund options.

The zoo has implemented emergency management procedures and the zoo has been evacuated. Akron Police and Fire are on scene and assessing the situation.
