The Akron Zoo and METRO Regional Transit Authority are partnering to help reduce transportation barriers to the zoo. Beginning in September, METRO Direct or METRO ADA service routes will ride for free when presenting their admission tickets to the bus operator.
This partnership launches in time for the zoo’s Community Days, which offers free admission to residents of Summit County during the month of September.
The Akron Zoo and METRO have previously joined forces to offer free rides to the zoo during Backpack Adventure, a back-to-school event hosted by the zoo and Akron Public Schools.
“Partnering with the Akron Zoo is vitality important to ensure transportation is not a barrier to getting to one of the best, family friendly, venues in our area,” said Molly Becker, director of PR & marketing for METRO.
“We are grateful for this expanded partnership with METRO and for their belief in our mission,” said Allyson Boyd, senior annual giving manager at the Akron Zoo. “We strive to be accessible for all. Everyone belongs at your Akron Zoo, whether you arrive by car, bike or METRO bus.”
METRO will also be joining the Akron Zoo on Sunday, Oct. 19 at Boo at the Zoo: Ultimate Fall Fest. Guest will have the opportunity to enter the Boo Bus at no charge for a fun Halloween experience.
