Chinchillas are nocturnal rodents that look like a cross between a mouse, and a rabbit and a squirrel. As with most nocturnal animals, they have large, dark eyes with vertically slit pupils to make the most of nightitme illumination. Their back legs are much longer and more muscular than their front legs, making them excellent jumpers, climbers and runners.
