Trailhead
The John Brown Monument Trailhead is open for public access in the zoo's parking lot. Stop by the John Brown Interpretive Center to learn more about John Brown, then head up the pathway to see the Monument. Access to the John Brown Monument Trailhead is weather
permitting and ends 30 minutes before the zoo closes during regular hours.
Peak Season Hours
April 4 - Sept. 30: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. daily
Off-Season Hours
Oct. 1 - April 3: 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. daily
The zoo is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Day.
Parking at the Akron Zoo is free and admission is not required to visit the John Brown Monument. The trailhead is a nature path and not ADA accessible. For an ADA access, please call 330-375-2550 to schedule a visit.
The public entrance to the John Brown Monument is a project of Akron200 and the Akron Bicentennial Commission. The Monument is owned by the City of Akron, and cared for by the Akron Zoo, in partnership with the Summit County Historical Society of Akron, OH. The trail was planned and constructed by Summit Metro Parks.
