The Akron Zoo once again partnered with Akron Public Schools (APS) to host annual back-to-school event, Backpack Adventure, on Aug. 5-6. The event saw record attendance of 5,685 guests over the two days.
During the event, 2,312 backpacks full of school supplies were passed out to APS students, grades kindergarten through fifth grade. Families enjoyed free admission into the zoo, where they were connected to various community services from local organizations and all six APS clusters. Akron Children’s provided wellness checks and immunizations and APS shared school-related information with parents.
Local community organizations included Akron Children’s Museum, Akron Fire Department, Akron-Summit County Library, Child Guidance & Family Solutions, County of Summit Job and Family Services, Metro RTA and more.
Backpack Adventure was made possible thanks to support from Enbridge Inc., The Kaulig Foundation, Andrea Rose Teodosio Foundation and others.
