Triceratops means "three-horned face." The two larger horns on its face could grow to over three feet in length! The purpose of their horns is debated, but some scientists hypothesize they could have been used for protection against predators, combat with other members of their species or display.

The solid frill on their head could have been used as a shield to protect against predators like Tyrannosaurus rex. Another theory suggests the frill was used to attract mates or to control body temperature, similar to how elephants use their large ears.
