Thecodontosaurus had a small, slim build and walked on long, muscular rear limbs adapted for running. Its shorter front limbs ended in five-fingered hands with just one clawed digit. It likely relied on its small size and agility as its only defense against predators.
Though its decedents, like Apatosaurus, were known for their incredibly long necks, Thecodontosaurus had a relatively short neck with a relatively large head at the end of it. To balance the weight of the head, the animal had a long, slender tail that also helped it balance when running and walking on its hind limbs.
