Ornithomimus means "bird mimic." At 6-7 feet tall and weighing around 350, it was very similar in size, shape and appearance to a modern-day ostrich. Well-preserved fossils show evidence of an ostrich-like feather covering most of its body. Much like modern birds, Ornithomimus had hollow bones. This, combined with long legs, allowed Ornithomimus to run fast and evade larger predators that lived alongside them.
Their skulls also show unique adaptations, including large eye sockets that suggest excellent vision. Additionally, they likely had good hand-eye coordination as a result of large brains.
