Edmontosaurus was named after the capital of the place the fossil was found, Edmonton in Alberta, Canada. Edmontosaurus means "Lizard from Edmonton." Scientists have discovered many fossils of this particular dinosaur, making it one of the most well-studied in North America.
Edmonotosaurus' front limbs were shorter than their back limbs, making it possible for them to stand and run on their rear legs. Some scientists estimate they could gallop at about 28-35 miles per hour. Their front hours were similar to mittens, with two of the fingers wrapped in one fleshy covering, while other digits were separate. This allowed for more support when on all four legs, while allowing them to grab things when on two legs.
As a herbivore, Edmontosaurus' large size was its best defense against large predators like Tyrannosaurus Rex. Additionally, we know they likely lived in large groups to to deter predators.
