The apatosaurus lived in semi-arid forests and floodplains during the late Jurassic period (152 - 145 mya). They were generally 65 - 80 ft. in length and weighed 30 - 45 tons.

Their long neck helped increase their horizontal reach, however, they mostly held their head parallel to the ground and couldn't lift it that high. The apatosaurus lived in herds to provide extra protection from predators.
