The education team at your Akron Zoo works daily with our animal ambassadors, building relationships that helps the staff to provide top-notch care for each and every animal.
Animal ambassadors play an important role at the Akron Zoo. They are the stars in the zoo’s education programs, helping build connections to the natural world and empathy for animals. For young children and adults alike, the thrill of being close to a wild animal can spark a life-long interest in learning how to protect wildlife. That connection inspires ways for individuals to take action for wildlife.
Best friends come in all shapes and sizes!

Chloe and Todd
Chloe, our kinkajou, has been best friend with Todd Boerner for 17 years!
Chi Chi and Carrie
Chi Chi, the yellow-naped Amazon parrot, loves to chat with her friend, Carrie Bassett.
Forest and Jenn
Forest the North American porcupine can be a smelly guy, but his friend Jenn Clark thinks he smells nice!
Summer and Debra
When Summer the groundhog declares you as her best friend, there is nothing Debra Swank could do but fall fast for her new BFF.
