About the Green Aracari
Green aracari are one of the smallest members of the toucan family, growing to just 12 to 16 inches and weighing 3.8 to 5.6 ounces. Their name is in reference to the dark green feathers on their backs, wings and tails. Female green aracari have a red crown, while males have black crowns.
Their bills have bright red, yellow and blue coloring with a serrated edge. Although their large bills look heavy, they are filled with honeycomb like pockets that make the bill exceptionally strong while keeping it light.
Green aracari nest in tree cavities vacated by other animals. Clutches typically produce two to four eggs, and both parents cooperate in rearing their young. They tend to live in small flocks or family groups.
